Jim Lockwood started his floor covering endeavor at the early age of sixteen. He was an apprentice under Elwood Brooks of Mathews County, VA. Upon the untimely death of Mr. Brooks, Jim left his job at the Newport News Shipyard to start Lockwood's Carpets in 1974. His wife, Debby Lockwood joined the company in 1975 as bookkeeper and interior decorator. The Lockwood's purchased their first building on Main Street in Gloucester Courthouse, where they remained for 23 years. In 1997 they completed a new 11,000 sqft. retail store and warehouse facility located on Route 17, George Washington Memorial Hwy. Jim & Debby Lockwood work closely with all of their staff to ensure that the highest quality standards are met in their floor covering business.
